Well, I've stared at the BearFic...

And I have no idea how I'm going to shove another character in there to accomodate the Hubby's (quite good) suggestion.
Putting the new character outside the ship is, I'm afraid, out of the question. Putting him onboard would be easier, but still problematic. I don't mind him getting in Russ's way, but I very much mind him getting in mine. The problem is that if he complicates Russ's life, he also complicates my plot, which is pretty linear and might not appreciate being tweaked around in order to hide stuff from someone who wasn't meant to be there in the first place.
Not only that, but I don't necessarily think the reporter should be a "him." It could be a "her." Or an "alien." AUGH.
I'll sleep on it, I guess. It's copied and pasted into a new doc so I don't frell the original. Yay for that.
In other news, I updated my profile to reflect recent events, like, oh, GETTING PUBLISHED. AND PAID. Um. *blush* Still kind of flailing like a flail-y thing over that. Yeah.

Date: 2007-12-10 02:15 pm (UTC)“Character.dos” - it's a sentient program residing in the ship's computer, Neuromancer- style. What the heck.

Date: 2007-12-10 06:24 pm (UTC)I haven't made the ship's computer a "character" in the story. But it's an interesting notion, especially if they install an "upgrade" and wackiness, as they say, ensues. I'll have to tie it into some sort of cargo. *sticks in hutch*
Thanks!
