I posted it this morning at apocalyptothon, but haven't had time to post it here yet. Go, me, finishing on time like an on-time finish-y thing! It came to just over 13,000 words and is thus too large for one LJ post. Many thanks to jerib_78 for the quick 'n dirty beta; she made several suggestions that I gleefully incorporated.

Not that it's finished or anything. Heck, I don't even have a title. Or a theme. Or a plot. What I have...is 1600 words of set-up. I humbly offer that much here, with the promise that it will be done, sometime. That being said, I have two ficathons that I really need to be working on (one of which I may actually have a start for, yay), plus another H/C Jayne/Zoe RPB (Rabid Plot Bunny) nibbling at my ankles, so this may go on a back burner for a bit until I figure out just exactly what I'm going to do with it.

"What are you doing in my office? I've told you never to come here."

"Now, now, Dr. Shepherd. I think you'll want to see me this time." Holland Manners crossed an elegantly-tailored ankle over his leg and smiled.

"I can't imagine any circumstances where I'd actually want to see you, Mr. Manners." Christian sat behind his desk and glared at his uninvited guest, barely able to mask his utter loathing with formality.

"One more job. Then you're free." Christian snorted, and he continued. "I understand you have a surgery scheduled tomorrow."

"So?"

"Your patient has...angered the Senior Partners. They feel it would be better if she didn't make it out of that surgery alive."

Christian came out of his chair, which spun into the wall behind him. "I'm a doctor! I don't kill people. Not even for you."

"This will be the last thing you ever have to do for us. Ever," Holland said, standing up. "Think about it."

As the door closed quietly behind the lawyer, Christian put his face in his hand for a moment, then reached into the back of his desk drawer for the bottle that was his constant companion these days. One more job...
